Spring Festival & Easter Egg Hunt
On Saturday, April 7th, more than 200 families visited Wright Tavern Historic Site in Wentworth for the Spring Festival and Easter Egg Hunt. The Rockingham County Historical Society Museum and Archives (RCHSMA) and the Wentworth Presbyterian Church jointly hosted the event, and both the Tavern and the church were open to visitors.
Beginning at 10:00 a.m., visitors toured the Tavern and viewed the vintage hat and historic Easter Egg exhibits. The Easter Bunny was on hand to meet visiting children and the Egg Hunt began at 11:00am. Children played, dyed and decorated Easter eggs, and panned for gems with the Rockingham County Mineral Club throughout the day.
The Cake Walk was a particular favorite with visitors of all ages. Cakes and other baked goods were awarded to more than 20 winners. A variety of other games including quoits, Jacob's ladder, cup and ball, horse shoes, and bean bag toss were enjoyed by all ages.
At noon, an Easter Bonnet competition was held, participants paraded around the historic site in their finery. Winners were awarded a variety of Easter toys. The ladies and gentlemen, young and old looked marvelous.
"This will be our go-to Easter event for our family from now on," one visitor commented. "There's so much to do here for our kids, and they loved it."
Wright Tavern Historic Site is located at 1073 Highway 65 in Wentworth, NC. The Tavern is open for tours weekly on Thursday and Friday from 10:00 until 4:00 and by appointment.
